Do You Take My Insurance?

I understand that the vast majority of people seeking therapy are hoping to use their insurance to cover the cost. For many clinicians this is a great way to build their practice, see more people and offer services to clients that may not be able to see a provider otherwise.
At this time, I do not take insurance directly.
If you want more information about why I don't take insurance right now, please check out my blog post on the matter.

What Are My Options?

I may not take insurance plans directly, but you have options if you want to see me:

  • I take cash, cards and checks for all services.
  • I am able to take Flexible Spending Account cards and Health Savings Account cards.
  • While being an out-of-network provider means I do not file with insurance companies directly, I provide all new clients with what is called a Superbill, which is a special receipt for services that you can submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement.
Superbills are provided to all clients on a monthly basis; they can be used as documentation for your FSA or HSA should they request proof of services as well as for possible out-of-network reimbursement with your insurance plan. If you would like to use your superbills to file a reimbursement claim, be warned that:
  • Some plans require that you or your partner(s) carry a mental health diagnosis before they will reimburse you for sessions. If that is the case we will need to discuss this in session
  • Sometimes couples/relationship therapy is not eligible for reimbursement
  • HMO plans do not usually provide out-of-network coverage
  • If you have a high deductible, your deductible will need to be met before you are eligible to receive reimbursement

If you want to try to use some of your insurance benefits for my services, the best thing you can do is call your health insurance company and ask about reimbursement for outpatient mental health services with out-of-network therapists.

Payment & Cancellation Policies

Payment is due either at the time of service or will be automatically charged to your card on file the following day. All clients will be asked to keep a credit card on file with me for incidentals, this includes late cancellation and no-show fees.

If you are unable to make a session, please notify me at least 24 hours in advance so that I may offer another client the opportunity to use that time.  If you are unable to make your scheduled time and have not provided me with 24 hours notice you will be charged the full amount for your session. Your card on file will be charged for the amount owed the following day. This is unless the circumstances for cancelling are covered in my latest policy regarding the current COVID-19 health crisis. You will find details on my updated cancellation policy here.

You can find my full scheduling, fees and appointments policy in my Professional Disclosure Statement (PDS), available in my intake forms or via email upon request.
